Egg: No image of this egg is currently available. It has only been seen twice, in early and late May, 2007. The yolk was noted as very rough, and misty, and the egg slightly oval. No chromatophores were noted in the egg.

Larva: The NH larva is elongate, with a relatively long gut (B, black arrow). and three clusters of yellow chromatophores (B). The chromatophores turned almost white in the 2-day larva (C). B: NH, C: 2 days, D: 3 days (22°C). Plate E: wild collected larva of 13.3mm SL.

Two larvae have been barcoded, hatched from eggs collected in an inshore sample off Park Rynie in May 2007 (BOLD). A match was later found with a larva taken in an inshore plankton sample collected at Park Rynie on 20 June 2010 (Plate E).

During February and March 2012, while diving at Sodwana Bay, Christo van Jaarsveld and I collected several specimens of a small trichonotid with a black first dorsal. The barcode of these specimens matches this egg. Thus the genus Trichonotus is confirmed, although the species has yet to be described.
